We're Tortazo, a Mexico City-style restaurant by Chef Rick Bayless. We serve some of CDMX's favorite dishes, but our true specialty is the Torta - Mexico's favorite sandwich.

Inspired by Mexico's vibrant food, colors, and culture, Tortazo is a place of discovery – of bold flavors and new culinary experiences – but also where the genuine warmth of Mexican hospitality will embrace you.

Our first location opened in early 2020 at Catalog in Chicago's iconic Willis Tower, offering counter service. In 2021, we expanded to the East Coast, opening in New York City's NoMad neighborhood as a full-service restaurant. In January 2023, we opened our second location right in the heart of the city and one of the most iconic places in the world Times Square.

MEET CHEF RICK

Rick Bayless is a 7-time James Beard award winning chef and the foremost expert on authentic Mexican cuisine in America.

His portfolio of award-winning, critically acclaimed restaurants include Frontera Grill, Topolobampo, XOCO, and Bar Sótano.

He is winner of Bravo’s Top Chef Masters, has received multiple Emmy nominations for his highly rated Public Television series, Mexico – One Plate at a Time, and has authored 9 best-selling cookbooks.

The Government of Mexico has bestowed on Rick the Mexican Order of the Aztec Eagle–the highest decoration bestowed on foreigners whose work has benefitted Mexico and its people.

He has also earned the Julia Child Foundation Award, a prestigious honor given to “an individual who has made a profound and significant impact on the way America cooks, eats, and drinks"
